Three special features of Holy One
The letters for God's name were padded quite heavily, outlined with a black sequin braid that was then overlaid with gold and black cording. This was to indicate the firm reality of God while in a celestial banner setting. The “diamonds” and glitter highlights were added to the first letters of each word.

The flames on Holy One stand above the crossbar so that introduces the problem of gravity. To counteract that, the fabric is stiffened with heavy upholstery weight buckram then wire was shaped and glued into place. The outside edges of the sequin fabric were turned in and the front and back pieces sides glued together at the top.

Ordinary curtain finials can be jazzed up to suit whatever banner they are designated for. These finials were spray painted gold and then glitter applied along the wires. The actual crossbar is covered with gold fabric instead of being painted. In this picture you can just see some of the fishing lines that run through this banner supporting it on the inside so the banner doesn’t collapse into itself. |
