The Story of The Lord our Healer

The Lord our Healer

Our healing comes from the work done on the Cross. The Nations will be healed by the leaves on the Tree of Life, but our healing is because Jesus died and rose again. Therefore the central figure on this banner is the cross.  It is a bronze colour representing the baseness of this implement of torture and death. The background fabric is white because when we are washed in the blood we become white as snow (Psalm 51:7).  The red flowing from the cross indicates His blood that flowed for us.  Mixed with the red are some pearl strands that are a symbol of purity through suffering. The red flows beyond the bottom of the banner to demonstrate that this sacrifice, although it was once for all time, ongoing effects.  On either side of the cross is stylized hyssop (a bushy herb which grows in the Middle East) with red sequining on it. The hyssop was deliberately made out of white lace to be barely visible, as it was an Old Testament symbol of healing, no longer needed under the new covenant.  The hyssop was dipped in blood and then used to apply the blood as in the Passover or sacrifices for healing (Ex12:22,  Lev 14:2-7). There are red ribbons falling from the Crossbar on either side of the banner, representing His stripes by which we are healed.  These ribbons flutter when the banner is moved, as though Jesus blood were flowing out over the people when the banner passes by.

The verses on the back first deal with God’s call to us, then what He did for us, and lastly what our response should be.  Exodus 15:26 I am the Lord who heals you.  Isaiah 53:4,5 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him and afflicted, But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.  Psalm 41:4 O Lord, have mercy on me and heal me for I have sinned against you.
