Jesus Healed All Because Jesus Loved All
Often when discussing praying for the sick with someone the topic comes up; why do we see such a small number of people healed, when in scripture we have a clear indication that Jesus healed all those who came to Him for healing? In doing some reading the other day I came across this section in the book Alone With The Alone George Maloney SJ, that helps bring some clarity for me to this question. I trust it will be helpful and encouraging for you also.
"Because of His understanding of who He was in His Father's eyes, and the love the Father had for Him, Jesus brought the love of the Father to all the broken ones He met. He did this by using material aids and techniques so that they were able to come close to him and receive His personalized love for them. In all such techniques Jesus allowed the sick the opportunity to become attentive to God's presence in Him. The ease which Jesus touched all types of sick people and, without complicated methods, healed them, showed the early disciples and those who were open to His total healing presence that Jesus was God's sign of the coming of the kingdom. Jesus healed not by possessing a psychic energy that passed from Him into the sick persons but rather by being the concrete expression of God's love for His suffering children. Jesus continues to heal you also by His spiritual gaze, His touch, His whole gentle presence, meeting your crying need. As you yield in faith to God's mysterious presence within Jesus, God's loving, healing presence is released within you.
The secret of Jesus' healing power while He walked this earth lies in the fact that He perfectly imaged the heavenly Father for each sick person whom He met. In the love that He poured out in each look and touch and work, He called the sick to the healing love of God. His Spirit allows you to see and experience the presence of the risen Jesus as the Father's love, living within you, and thus He calls you into the healing of abundant life."
What this clearly says is that, when your look at your utter inability to be a consistently loving person to all who come into your life, you begin to realize that you need a deeper experience of the loving intimacy with the Father. You need an understanding, given by God's Spirit, of your true self in Jesus Christ. This helps you to understand the person you are in God's eyes. When you begin to truly realize how much God loves you and yield yourself completely to that love, His healing presence is released within you.
